A Garden Days Out tour of two exceptional private gardens

Two atmospheric private gardens where great structure underlies the romance

Our first stop of the day is Hanham Court where the gardens were designed as a complement to the dramatic architecture of the house by former owners Julian and Isabel Bannerman. In 2015 the present owners, Richard and Julia Boissevain made a full and sensitive restoration and they have gone on to develop and refine the garden with great skill and make it their own.

We drive on to the picturesque market town of Usk for a two-course lunch and a glass of wine at the Nag's Head pub.

The day ends at Allt-y-bela, award-winning garden designer Arne Maynard's home. Arne's ability to conjure up the spirit of the place is palpable in this magical spot where the garden seems rooted in the surrounding countryside and its past. Topiary and other clipped and trained forms cluster around the house, there is land sculpture, a knot garden, a small but intensely productive kitchen garden, and many other delights.

The Practicalities

10.05am Meet at Bristol Parkway station (08.45 train from London Paddington arrives 10.05am)where coach will pick group up.

10.35am Arrive Hanham Court, Hanham Abbots BS15 3NT where we have a guided tour of the garden and tea/coffee and cake.
